The chemical compound carbon dioxide (also known as CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas and driver of climate change. Two of the most impactful that human activity is altering the amount of CO2 in Earth’s atmosphere are 1) the burning of fossil fuels which adds more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, and 2) affecting the ability of natural sinks (like forests) to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
