Resilience Fellow – Solano Housing Research

Overview

Compensation: $22 per hour
Hours: Flexible, approximately 15-25 hours per week. 
Location: Hybrid/Remote.
Projected Start Date: Flexible, applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Ideal start date is June 15, 2025. This is intended as a summer fellowship position to conclude September 2025. Opportunities to continue fellowship may be available.

About this Opportunity:

Greenbelt Alliance is seeking a fellow with a background in housing policy and development that can advance exciting and impactful research in Solano County to support climate-smart infill development. This fellow will support our work with the Solano Together coalition to identify barriers and opportunities for Solano’s seven cities to develop housing that supports climate justice and open space protections.

Key Responsibilities

  • Housing Policy Research
    • Conduct interviews with key stakeholders, including developers, housing justice advocates, planning staff, local elected of, etc.
    • Conduct research on existing housing-related policies impacting Solano’s seven cities (Vallejo, Benicia, Suisun, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Dixon).
    • Conduct research on housing production in Solano as compared to similar communities
    • Identify local policies and practices to support housing development that are applicable to Solano communities (identify similar communities and case study policies).
  • High-quality Communication Skills
    • Summarize research findings in a compelling written form.
    • Communicate effectively with internal team (working with our Marketing and Communications team to finalize materials) and external partners.
    • Demonstrate professionalism in interviews and interactions with partners and stakeholders.
  • Supporting Related Events
    • Support organization of a forum, panel, or similar event to showcase findings.
    • Support with related outreach activities (preparing event flyers, writing a press release, contributing to multimedia communications around research/ housing).

Qualifications & Skills

  • Interest and experience in housing policy/development (academic or professional).
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills.
  • Independent worker with strong communication skills and an ability to maintain timelines and advance work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of Solano County strongly preferred.
  • Awareness of local, regional, and statewide housing policy strongly preferred, especially an understanding of various perspectives on housing narratives.
  • Ability to collaboratively with internal and external partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
