The Oakland City Council has approved building 234 new homes on city-owned land near the 19th Street BART in the Broadway-Valdez District. Fifteen percent of these homes will be affordable to a mix of very-low, low, and moderate income people.
Greenbelt Alliance has been front and center in shaping what’s happening in the Broadway-Valdez District—long known as “Auto Row.”
We worked for six long years to shape the city plan to revitalize the area, which Oakland leaders officially adopted in 2014. Our goal was to create a blueprint for a vibrant, walkable neighborhood with a mix of homes, shops, and jobs—a model for the type of development of which the Bay Area can be proud. This newly-approved project, which will convert two parking lots into housing and retail, is exactly the type of development we envisioned.
