Greenbelt Alliance is excited to endorse the LH Village Project in San José’s Alviso Area. This new project will provide nearly 800 new affordable homes and link residents to nearby tech campuses, including several Google sites. The village hopes to jump start an economic revitalization of the surrounding area and transform it into a lively mixed-use district that would provide additional amenities, like the already constructed Top Golf complex, for their residents.
The LH Village Project addresses crucial concerns regarding affordable housing in the South Bay by ensuring 100% affordability at 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). LH Village will utilize the state density bonus law to maximize their building’s height and density, and as a result, every unit in the new project will be affordable for the local population. It is designed to provide ample bike parking, with 238 spaces, and provides EV charging on-site.
The LH Village Project aligns well with Greenbelt’s commitment to sustainable development via its SMART—Sustainable, Mixed, Affordable, Resilient, Transit-Oriented—development criteria. The building will be 100% electric, reducing the use of harmful greenhouse gases in providing energy to residents. Moreover, the village will use sustainable landscaping methods for the surrounding greenery to minimize water usage in an already drought-prone region.
A GreenTRIP model indicates that the LH Village Project will result in:
- 12,230 fewer miles driven every day compared to the Santa Clara County average.
- 48% fewer GHG impacts every day compared to the Santa Clara County average.
- 46% less parking use every day compared to the Santa Clara County average.
Greenbelt Alliance is proud to support this project and looks forward to the impact of the LH Village Project not just in providing sustainable and affordable housing in the South Bay but also its potential to stimulate economic activity in the area.
Greenbelt Alliance’s Climate SMART—Sustainable, Mixed, Affordable, Resilient, Transit-Oriented— Development Endorsement Program goals call for fully protecting the Bay Area’s greenbelt, directing growth within existing communities, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and accomplishing both in a way that equitably benefits all Bay Area residents. Our Endorsement Program supports projects that advance the right kind of development in the right places. By promoting climate SMART development, we can create thriving, resilient neighborhoods with ready access to transit and housing choices for all of the Bay Area’s people.
