Greenbelt and SB 375 at League Day

Tomorrow, Executive Director Jeremy Madsen will share Greenbelt Alliance’s Grow Smart Bay Area vision at the annual Bay Area League Day hosted by the League of Women Voters.

The League Day, titled “Big Steps, Little Steps to Addressing Climate Change,” will address SB 375, the landmark 2008 greenhouse-gas reduction law, which emphasizes smart growth in the state of California by tying transportation funds with land-use plans.

Smart growth is particularly important in the Bay Area, which expects to grow by 2 million more people within the next 25 years.

In addition to Madsen, speakers include California Air Resources Board Chair Mary Nichols, Metropolitan Transportation Commission Executive Director Steve Heminger, Bay Area Air Quality Management District Executive Director Jack Broadbent, and representatives from other area groups.

The Bay Area League Day will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, in the MetroCenter at 101 Eighth Street in Oakland. The event is easily accessible by BART. Admission is $15.
