Greenbelt Alliance is excited to report that the Las Juntas Way community by Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley, Inc. in Walnut Creek was approved.
This 100% affordable community will feature 42 new townhomes just across from the Contra Costa Centre Transit Village—a welcome addition to a major transit hub and job center in the heart of the county.
At a time when so many Contra Costa County families are struggling to find affordable homes, Las Juntas Way will create healthy opportunities to live, work, and play in Walnut Creek. Promoting sustainable and active living, Las Juntas Way will be Build it Green certified, include ample bicycle parking, and provide direct access to the popular Iron Horse Trail.
With sprawl pressure mounting on Contra Costa County’s farms, ranches, and natural lands, these homes couldn’t come at a better time. Las Juntas Way sets a great example for smart infill development in Contra Costa by adding appropriate transitional density to a neighborhood close to transit. Additionally, it supports the local economy, relieves development pressure on the region’s open spaces, and offers a host of other environmental and quality of life benefits.
