UPDATE: We’re excited that Prop. 68 passed in the June 2018 election!
The federal administration seems determined to put the nation’s environment at risk. This June Californians came together to stand up for our natural resources by passing Proposition 68, the California Clean Water and Safe Parks Act. This $4.1 billion bond measure funds parks, access to clean water, and improved resilience to climate change for all California residents.
On June 5, Prop. 68 passed—the first parks and water bond on a statewide ballot in more than 10 years.
In the Bay Area, voting YES on Prop. 68 means bringing new parks to underserved areas like East Palo Alto and Richmond so that every child has safe and accessible places to play. It means investing in open spaces that are threatened by sprawl development such as Coyote Valley, south of San Jose—an area critical to the region’s water supply, wildlife habitat, and food security. And it means safeguarding the many miles of shoreline habitat around the Bay from the impacts of rising seas and other effects of a changing climate.
Passing Prop. 68 this June sends a powerful message to the nation about how much we value the environmental, economic, and quality of life benefits that our parks and natural resources provide for all Californians—now, and for many generations to come.
