Resilience Fellow – North Bay Extreme Heat and Wildfire

Overview

Compensation: $22 per hour
Hours: Flexible, approximately 10-20 hours per week.
Location: North Bay/ Sonoma strongly preferred. Hybrid working with some attendance at events and meetings.
Projected Start Date: Flexible, applications reviewed on a rolling basis. Ideal start date is May 1st, 2025.

About this Opportunity:

Greenbelt Alliance is seeking a fellow to support work in the North Bay (Sonoma specifically) on programmatic issues such as extreme heat planning, updates to the County’s General Plan, and ongoing wildfire resilience. This role is perfect for someone looking to gain experience in climate resilience and city planning that is based in the North Bay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement & Outreach
    • Build relationships with community members, advocacy groups, and local organizations to promote climate and environmental justice initiatives.
    • Organize and facilitate workshops, public meetings, and listening sessions to gather input and foster dialogue to support extreme heat planning in Santa Rosa.
    • Develop culturally-appropriate outreach materials, including fact sheets, social media content, and newsletters.
  • Extreme Heat & General Plan Research
    • Conduct research on extreme heat planning and best practices for conducting community-centered research to support extreme heat planning in Santa Rosa.
    • Conduct research on General Plan policies to support input and engagement with the Sonoma County General Plan.
    • Assist in policy analysis and advocacy efforts related to climate adaptation and land-use planning.
    • Track relevant local policies affecting North Bay communities.
  • Communication and Project Support
    • Support preparation of reports and deliverables by collaborating internally and externally to complete projects on time.
    • Prepare written materials and communication materials to support our work (be familiar with communicating to various audiences: board of supervisors, public, Greenbelt audience, funders, partners, etc.)

Qualifications & Skills

  • Interest in climate resilience, equitable engagement, and land-use planning/policy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse communities.
  • Great organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain set timelines and communicate effectively with partners to complete projects together.
  • Lives in and is familiar with the North Bay, especially Santa Rosa and Sonoma County.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, and social media platforms is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
