Hitesh Soneji is a Professor of Engineering, Energy, and Sustainability at City College of San Francisco. He is also actively engaged as an energy systems decarbonization consultant. Hitesh held the Chair of the Engineering Department from 2012-2016. He has been instrumental in enabling CCSF’s sustainability curriculum.
Hitesh’s focus in industry is on enabling grid integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), ranging from solar and batteries to thermostats. Clients include firms in transportation electrification and induction stoves. He has worked on numerous California Energy Commission R&D projects, enabling electrification and decarbonization. Prior to energy, Hitesh was an intern at Greenbelt Alliance, working on land use policy. Hitesh also spent 9 years working in the electronics industry for HP & Intel.
Hitesh and his family of four live an intentional car-free life and are strong advocates for public transit and safer streets for all. Hitesh is an avid cyclist, skier, bike- & backpacker, and all-around lover of nature. Hitesh holds an MS Environmental Studies & Sustainability Science from the University of Lund, Sweden and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from CMU in Pittsburgh, PA.
