Greenbelt Alliance is excited to endorse the 320 Sheridan Drive Educator Housing Project, a proposed residential development in Menlo Park. This innovative project envisions 88 new affordable homes, where all units will be leased to Ravenswood school district employees at heavily discounted rents between 30% and 80% of the area median income.
320 Sheridan Drive addresses a pressing need for housing within the Menlo Park community, providing educators and staff with the opportunity to live near their workplace and contribute to the local area’s vitality. The site, formerly the Flood School, has sat vacant for years, making this an ideal opportunity to repurpose the land in a way that benefits both the community and the environment. Its strategic location near existing schools and the Ravenswood district office, and proximity to SamTrans bus lines, enhances the accessibility and appeal of the project. Moreover, being only 2.2 miles from downtown Menlo Park and the Caltrain station, the project offers convenient transit options and amenities for residents.
In addition to its prime location in a high resource neighborhood, 320 Sheridan Drive aligns with Greenbelt Alliance’s commitment to sustainable development. The inclusion of over 90 onsite bicycle parking spaces, bicycle repair stations, and a Commute.org shuttle program significantly reduces car dependency, contributing to lower carbon emissions. The project’s environmentally conscious design further reduces impermeable surfaces from 76% to 63% through the use of pervious pavers and embraces all-electric infrastructure, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint.
A GreenTRIP model indicates that the 320 Sheridan Drive Educator Housing Project will result in:
- 1,086 fewer miles driven every day compared to the San Mateo County average.
- 38% fewer GHG impacts every day compared to the San Mateo County average.
