Accelerating Climate-Smart Housing Abundance

The challenge: The Bay Area’s soaring housing costs have led to a devastating increase in housing insecurity that ultimately exposes vulnerable populations to the harsh impacts of climate change.

The solution: Greenbelt Alliance is activating environmentalists as advocates for housing as a climate solution while mobilizing housing actors to advocate for new homes in the right places. Our work will increase new homes within existing communities—across all income levels—in ways that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate risks, and impacts on the natural environment. Here’s how…

OUR STRATEGY

Educate

Greenbelt Alliance is making the climate case for housing on the coalitions we are a part of, with our business partners through training workshops, and by providing learning opportunities with youth across the region.

By supporting the right type of housing in the right places, we inspire new investment and sustainable development—addressing both the climate and housing crises together.

Advocate

Greenbelt Alliance is leading advocacy initiatives for the right kinds of land-use policies that prioritize affordable, low-emission, climate-resilient development in places that avoid climate hazard areas.

This holistic advocacy approach to the housing and climate crises guides decisions that result in people and nature thriving together.

Collaborate

Greenbelt Alliance brings environmentalists and housing advocates together to consider both sides when planning for the future. And we ensure inclusive processes are upheld, giving everyone a say in how their city grows.

This cooperative work is essential to ensure everyone has a safe place to live in balance with nature.
