Marin Protects San Geronimo Valley by Voting No on Measure D

Update: On March 3, Marin County voters said no to Measure D, choosing to protect, connect, and restore in perpetuity more than 157 spectacular acres in the San Geronimo Valley in West Marin along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard.

The Trust for Public Land, a respected conservation organization founded in Marin County, purchased the property in early 2018 to protect its natural resources, open it to the public, and restore its native habitat.

But a narrow special interest group had put an initiative on the March 2020 ballot, Measure D, that forced the entire county to vote up or down on limiting the land’s use to only golf. The land is no longer a golf course and the landowner, The Trust for Public Land, has said that it cannot rebuild or operate a golf course.

By voting no on D, Marin County has ensured that open space and many conservation and public benefit uses are made possible on the land that will be protected in San Geronimo Valley. Saying no to Measure D also prevents the County from allowing other uses without voter approval.

Benefits of Protecting Lands by Voting No on Measure D

Preserving (in perpetuity) over 150 acres of land in the heart of Marin County will:

  • Protect communities near fragile habitats from the threat of development and wildfires.
  • Support a new, critically-needed fire headquarters that will serve the entire county.
  • Provide publicly-accessible open space, recreational opportunities, and community amenities.
  • Serve as a gateway to over 100,000 acres of public land from the Golden Gate Bridge to Point Reyes National Seashore.
  • Help to restore the last great salmon run in the Bay Area.
  • Build upon Marin County’s legacy of land stewardship.
