Greenbelt Alliance applauds the Menlo Park City Council for unanimously approving the Station 1300 mixed-use development project by Greenheart Land Company.
Station 1300 is a game changer for Menlo Park. It took 10 years, spanned multiple development teams, and survived a ballot initiative to block it, but this project ultimately prevailed. Greenbelt Alliance is proud to endorse Station 1300 and helped to push it over the finish line, providing powerful support that was picked up by The Almanac and by The Mercury News.
The project transforms a blighted eyesore along the El Camino Real Corridor into a mixed-use community with 183 new homes—11% of which will be affordable to a range of incomes. This opens new possibilities for residents like Patrick Pelegri O’Day who grew up in Menlo Park and explained to the City Council, “I won’t be able to live here in this town because there aren’t affordable options for people doing the kind of career path I’m doing. This project gives me some hope of something otherwise.”
Station 1300 sparks new downtown opportunities right next to the Caltrain station. It creates a livable community near transit, with ample open space—including a dog park and an amphitheater—and retail spaces to help invigorate the street atmosphere, which has long been a community goal.
The unanimous support of the Menlo Park City Council demonstrates that we are making progress to meet our region’s housing needs. Now, let’s redouble our efforts to inspire communities around the Bay Area to follow in Menlo Park’s footsteps and make smart growth decisions that benefit the community as a whole.
