We are excited to announce that the Emeryville City Council has unanimously approved the Sherwin Williams project by Lennar Multifamily Communities.
This proposal transforms a former brownfield site into a walkable, vibrant community with 500 new homes on one of the largest infill sites in Emeryville. It has many noteworthy features, including a community benefits agreement, which made one council member exclaim: “it’s close to perfect and will enhance the city as a whole…and be the better for it.”
Greenbelt Alliance endorsed the Sherwin Williams project earlier this year.
Some of these benefits include:
- Adaptive reuse of the historic Emeryville Sherwin Williams plant into a walkable community
- A new public park and investments to create a major portion of the Emeryville Greenway trail
- Homes for people across the income spectrum (17% affordable)
- And an enviable traffic reduction plan with strong transit connections
We are also honored that Mayor Dianne Martinez raved about Greenbelt Alliance, and our partners TransForm and Bike East Bay, in her approval of the project. Our endorsement’s “tip of the hat” for Sherwin Williams captures “so many of the things that I want out of a development and to have their blessing on this is a big deal for me…big, big deal for me. It says volumes about what we expect to see in our community.”
We agree with the City Council that the Sherwin Williams project is another smart step in making Emeryville an exciting place to live. And to top it off, this proposal will help address the Bay Area’s pressing housing shortage, support the local economy, and relieve development pressure on our natural and agricultural lands.
