Measure RR raises $3.5 billion to help keep BART safe and reliable, reduce crowding, keep cars off the road, and protect the environment. Voters in San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties will be asked to approve the measure.
Measure RR authorizes a $3.5 billion bond to provide much-needed improvements to the ailing Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. The majority of these funds will go toward the repair and replacement of safety infrastructure, including renewal of tracks, power infrastructure, tunnels, structures, mechanical infrastructure, and stations. In addition, it will facilitate the replacement of train control systems to increase peak period capacity, invest in measures to relieve crowd and traffic congestion, and expand access to stations.
With increased safety and reliability, the improved BART system will allow Bay Area residents to have more transportation choices. It will also foster more walkable, transit-friendly neighborhoods, where fewer people need a car to get around. That’s great for our quality of life and for protecting our region’s natural and agricultural lands from auto-dependent sprawl.
Greenbelt Alliance urges everyone in San Francisco, Alameda, and Contra Costa counties to vote YES on Measure RR.
