Yesterday, San Francisco residents overwhelmingly said yes to more affordable homes by voting for Proposition A, easily clearing the required two-thirds majority.
Here’s what Prop A will do:
- Provide new housing for low- and middle-income individuals and families, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities
- Repair dilapidated public housing for San Francisco’s lowest-income families
- Offer loan assistance for teachers and first-time home buyers
- Help ease the housing crunch in the Mission District
San Francisco and the Bay Area have the highest median rents—as a city and as a region, respectively—in the entire country. Prop A is a $310 million bond for affordable housing that will directly fund building more homes for low-income and middle-class individuals and families. It will also create local jobs and ease development pressure on the Bay Area’s open spaces.
Proposition A isn’t just a win for San Francisco, but the entire Bay Area. The future of our region depends on our ability to create thriving, diverse neighborhoods while protecting the natural and agricultural lands that surround them. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote!
