Tour of San Jose's North First Street Corridor: "A New Way for San Jose"
Media Advisory
WHAT:
"A New Way for San Jose," Light-Rail Tour of San Jose's North First Street
Corridor for San Jose decision-makers and community members
WHEN:
9:00am - 2:00pm, Saturday, August 16, 2008
WHERE:
St. James Park, Corner of North First Street & East St. James Street, San
Jose
WHY:
Though North San Jose is home to some of the world's best-known tech
companies, it is also a sprawling no-man's-land of vacant buildings, low
office buildings, and big parking lots. This sprawling, inefficient
development discourages walking and makes little use of the light-rail line
that runs along North First Street.
Now the city is planning a transformation of the North First Street
corridor, with 32,000 new homes and 83,000 new jobs, as well as parks, bikes
lanes, plazas, and widened sidewalks. If done well, this new development
will embrace the existing light-rail line and offer a smart transportation
alternative to residents.
