Greenbelt Alliance In the NewsJune 8, 2008 Housing project combines virtues Marla Wilson This week, San Jose will have the opportunity to grow a little greener. On Wednesday, the planning commission will consider a proposal for new green homes to fill the fenced-off, empty lot at Second and Keyes streets. South Second Street Studios, endorsed by Greenbelt Alliance, will have solar panels and a rooftop butterfly garden, but it is made greenest of all because it puts affordable homes close to jobs and public transit. Residents will even get free transit passes. Too many people are forced to "drive until they qualify" to find an affordable home - and we all end up sitting in the resulting traffic. This is the kind of growth San Jose residents can benefit from. The planning commission should give South Second Street Studios the green light. Marla Wilson ### |
