from the Editor
Holiday greetings, friends. This December has been a busy one for us
we're preparing for a San Francisco office move while continuing our work
to protect open space and promote smart growth in all Bay Area counties.
We know everyone's busy at the holiday season. One holiday time saver
we suggest is to give Greenbelt Alliance membership or stylish merchandise
as a present to those remaining people on your list. You're giving a great
present to your friend while helping to save the greenbelt. Or give yourself
a gift by joining Greenbelt Alliance. Until next year, have a joyous and
peaceful winter season.
Survey
shows Bay Area Supports Smart Growth
Most Bay Area residents support smart growth solutions to
traffic congestion, the lack of affordable housing, and other quality
of life issues. Thats the finding of a public opinion survey released
in November by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC).

A
Tribute to Ellen Straus
Ellen Straus, matriarch of a pioneering organic dairy family, longtime
Greenbelt Alliance Board Member, and co-founder of Marin Agricultural
Land Trust (MALT), America's first agricultural land trust, died at her
home in Marshall, California in late November. Ellen was instrumental
in introducing youth and families to the importance of agriculture through
the Greenbelt Outings program. Ellen also led farmland and open space
protection efforts in Marin County and throughout the Bay Area on behalf
of Greenbelt Alliance. Read our tribute to Ellen. http://www.greenbelt.org/regions/bayarea/ellenstraus.html.

Greenbelt

Project Greenbelt Alliance's MessageDonate Equipment
What should you do with that computer projector or Macintosh G3 now that
you've received a new one? Donate it to Greenbelt Alliance today. We are
seeking equipment for our field offices and main office. In particular,
we need an LCD or digital projector that can be hooked up to a computer
for PowerPoint presentations. With a projector, our Compact Development
Endorsement Team can do more effective outreach to developers, planners,
city councils, and others. Email us at info@greenbelt.org. To see what
else our offices need, please go to: http://www.greenbelt.org/getinvolved/wishlist.html.
