Solano Napa Outreach, Policy Analyst, and Media Internship |
Greenbelt Alliance is seeking highly motivated individuals with backgrounds
in public policy, environmental planning, transportation policy, outreach
strategies, public relations, grassroots organizing or management for
a rewarding internship in community organizing and policy advocacy through
our Solano/Napa Field Office.
About Us
Greenbelt Alliance is the Bay Area's leading land conservation and urban planning
nonprofit. Our mission is to make the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area
a better place to live by protecting the region's greenbelt and improving
the livability of its cities and towns. Since 1958, we have been active across
the nine-county region protecting open space, opposing sprawl, and promoting
smart growth. We have helped save over 1.1 million acres of greenbelt and
we're a leader in promoting regional solutions to the problems of sprawl.
Our Solano-Napa Office is located in Fairfield and focuses on land-use and
public policy issues in Solano and Napa County.
Responsibilities
The Outreach, Policy Analyst and Media Relations
Intern will assist the Solano-Napa Representative in media-related needs
pertaining to Greenbelt Alliance's work in Solano and Napa Counties. The
intern will work with the Solano-Napa Field Representative to implement outreach,
media and volunteer coordinating efforts for Greenbelt Alliance’s Solano
and Napa Campaigns. Duties include devising outreach strategies to reach
out to diverse communities, creating outreach materials; tabling at community
gatherings; recruiting, orienting, and training new volunteers, tracking
volunteer activities and maintaining a volunteer database.
The intern will also provide Smart Growth and Green Policy research analysis.
These duties include researching smart growth, natural resource, agricultural,
and open space protection policies in counties nationwide, identifying effective
policies that can be used as models for Solano County and developing General
Plan update policy recommendations.
Commitment
This internship requires a 10 to 40 hours a week commitment for at least 2
months. A longer commitment is highly encouraged. Scheduling is at the intern's
discretion. However, some nights and weekend days will be required. This
is an ongoing opportunity available year round. Work takes place in the Greenbelt
Alliance Fairfield office with outreach in Solano and Napa Counties. This
position is unpaid.
Talents/Skills Wanted
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and outgoing, and have a strong interest
in environmental and land-use issues. A background in public policy, public
relations, grassroots organizing, or communications is a helpful, but not
required. Interns must be detail-oriented, possess excellent written and
oral communication skills, have a proven ability to work effectively and
creatively with diverse populations, have a good sense of humor, and be able
to work independently and meet deadlines. Undergraduate and graduate students
are encouraged to apply. Residency in the Solano or
Napa Counties is not required, but strongly encouraged.

of activities that will improve communication, media, policy and grassroots
organizing skills. The intern will have both direction and independence to
create opportunities for the organization and the individual.
