Livable Communities Visioning Team Volunteer


Greenbelt Alliance is seeking qualified and motivated individuals with backgrounds in planning and/or architecture for a rewarding volunteer opportunity as a Livable Communities Visioning Team volunteer.

About Us
Greenbelt Alliance is the Bay Area's leading land conservation and urban planning nonprofit. Our mission is to make the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area a better place to live by protecting the region's greenbelt and improving the livability of its cities and towns. Since 1958, we have been active across the nine-county region protecting open space, opposing sprawl, and promoting smart growth. We have helped save over 1.1 million acres of greenbelt and we're a leader in promoting regional solutions to the problems of sprawl.

Responsibilities
The Livable Communities Outreach Team volunteer helps determine tactics around transit-oriented development in targeted Bay Area cities. Making use of existing templates, the volunteer works with others on the visioning team to formulate message and content for urban outings and other Livable Communities Outreach events. The volunteer visits outing and event sites and helps plan the route and event. The volunteer helps lead and facilitate urban outings, town hall forums, and other outreach events.

Commitment
The volunteer position requires a monthly commitment of 5-10 hours for a minimum of one year. Monthly meetings are held in the evening at Greenbelt Alliance's San Francisco Office. Evening or weekend field visits are held usually twice a month at sites determined by team members.

Talents/Skills Desired
Volunteer qualifications and background sought:
1. Reliable and able to communicate with team members as event comes together.
2. Must have either access to a car or willingness to carpool with others when necessary.
3. Knowledge of smart growth/livable communities principles and issues.
4. Planning or architecture background helpful.
5. Knowledge of law and political processes surrounding land use helpful.
6. Ability to attend once-a-month meetings at the Greenbelt Alliance San Francisco Office.
