New Research on Local Solutions for Infill Housing

The Bay Area has a choice. Over the next generation, our population will grow from roughly 7 million people to 9 million.

Will we choose to protect our greenbelt of natural landscapes, farms, and ranches as we grow, or sprawl ever outward? In order to protect our greenbelt, it is essential that the right development happens in the right places.

There are many challenges to infill housing development that arise in cities across the region, state, and nation. Greenbelt Alliance’s Fixing the Foundation: Local Solutions for Infill Housing features 12 key cities across the Bay Area with high potential for infill housing development: Concord, Fremont, Mountain View, Oakland, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Santa Clara, Santa Rosa, San Francisco, San Jose, Sunnyvale, and Walnut Creek.

Fixing the Foundation identifies the top 10 barriers to infill housing development across these cities and provides local solutions for overcoming these barriers. Our City by City analysis applies the report findings to each of our 12 cities, offering specific recommendations for local, tangible impact in the Bay Area.
